LOGOS

Sketches & Name Origin

The city of Portland was chosen based on their preexisiting hockey fan base built around the Portland Winterhawks of the CHL. The team name Otters was settled upon layout after researching the different animals that inhabit Portland and the wider Oregon area. River Otters are a common animal the Portland area and the initial name was the 'River Otters' before it was changed to the short form 'Otters'. Other considerations included the Portland Wolves, the Portland Swift, and (before settling on Portland) the Baltimore Vultures.

Final Logos

Final Logos

In the process of developing the Primary Logo I decided on the color scheme based on the official city flag of Portland. Then, when the logo was near completion, I decided to make the head more otter-like as it was still a little ambiguous. The Third Logo with the city flag inside the 'P' was an idea I had quickly after completing the Primary Logo as I knew I would need some secondary decals for the uniforms. The last logo I created was the Alternate Logo. I wanted to use the underutilized blue color to give it a very different look for it to go along with the very different alternate jerseys I was in the process of developing.

Primary Logo

Inspired by an otter diving in the water, this logo serves as the main logo for the team. It's furry spikes are a theme that is followed throughout the brand.

Alternate Logo

This alternate logo offers a stark difference than the primary logo and is used on the Otters' alternate uniforms. The spiked edges reference the primary logo.

Third Logo

This logo is derived from the official flag for the city of Portland, Oregon. It is fit inside a 'P' for Portland and is used on the shoulders of their Home & Away jerseys.

UNIFORMS

HOME

AWAY

ALTERNATE

The Portland Otters will wear 3 sets of uniforms: a Home uniform, an Away uniform, and an Alternate uniform. Naturally, the Home and Away uniforms use a near-identical but inverted design. The pointed accent on the sleeves of the jerseys relate back to the same theme of furry spikes found in the logo and offer a feeling of motion not usually seen in traditional stripes. The Alternate uniform is a complete 180 from the standard uniforms and makes use of the underused blue color just like the Alternate logo on it's chest.

HOME ICE

Moda Center

The Portland Otters will play in the pre-existing home of the Portland Trail Blazers, the Moda Center. This venue is already adaptable to ice hockey and already has hockey fan base built around the CHL's Portland Winterhawks that play at the Moda Center. Many NBA and NHL teams already share an arena and it should be no different here in Portland.

MASCOT

Ollie the Otter

Ollie is the official mascot of the Portland Otters. Their name is inspired by the rich skateboarding culture of the Portland, Oregon. They spend most of their time cheering on the Otters at the Moda Center and entertaining the fans. When they're not at the game you can find them skateboarding around downtown Portland, checking out his favorite coffee shops, or just hanging out in his borrow under the arena.
